Sadness (Inside out)

Hi!

Recently I watched Inside out and I really liked it. I think it is a very smart and creative movie, which may inspire us to make some reflections. I enjoyed all the characters, but the one I identified myself most was Sadness, that’s why I had to do her <3 I didn’t wanted to make a big amigurumi nor complicated, so I designed this pattern. I hope you guys like it :)

Materials:

– Blue yarn (I used Anne by Circulo, which is a Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi));
– Navy yarn (I used Anne by Circulo, which is a Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi));
– Popcorn yarn (I used Anne by Circulo, which is a Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi));
– Blue sparkling yarn to make her hair (I used Precioso by Circulo, which is a Bulky / 12 ply (7 wpi));
– 2mm crochet hook;
– Fiberfill;
– Tapestry needle and scissors;
– Cooper wire to make her glasses or a piece of black felt;
– Contact glue;
– Paintbrush, black, white, blue and navy fabric paint;
– White felt.

Notes:

– I always do my crochet works using continuous rounds. I will let you know when you have to join rounds;
– Everytime I will do a crochet work, the first thing I do is take a look in the entirely pattern before start doing it, so, I can have an idea of how the pattern works. Well, I recommend you to do the same;
– For sewing the pieces together you will use the tapestry needle;

Recently, I’m having a hard time to answer all the questions sent to my email and the comments. I’m sorry that I’m not able to answer your doubts. However, if you have any doubt, I’m sure that it is worth to leave a comment here, because even if I can’t answer you, I’m sure that someone in the community will try to help you out ^^

8. Make her hair

8.1. Use these images and images of the original character to get an idea of her haircut.

8.2. To make her hair I cut many pieces of yarn with the double of the desired lenght and attached it to her sclap with a knot in the same way I attached charizard tail.

8.3. I attached the yarn following her hair line (this one in red).

20150717_1135521

8.4. I also divided the process in three steps. First, I made the right side of her head. Then I made the back and finally I made her left side, always following her hair line.

9. Make her face

9.1. To make her eyes I cut a round piece of white felt and painted with fabric paint the iris, pupil and light reflection.

9.2. To make her eyebrows I glued a piece of yarn (the same I used to her hair) to her face. (You may embroider her eyebrows)

9.3. To make her mouth I glued a piece of black felt. (You may embroider her mouth)

20150717_112900

10. Make her glasses

10.1. To make her glasses I used a piece of cooper wire. I had to bend it into two round shapes with a line between them. Then, I had to weld the tips and, finally paint it black. However you may use a piece of black felt to make it.

  5. Hi, wonderfullllllll!!!! But I don’t understand this passage

    Round 6: 3 hdc, inc (from here work only in the 3rd “hidden” loop at the back of work, under back loop of each st around) (30)

    Thank you for the answer

    1. I think I’ve understand : you have to pick the loop just behind the “V” of the stitch, at the back of your work

  6. Mia do céu, quase morri quando vi a receita, a tristeza ficou linda!!!!!
    Mas eu juro q a “round 6” do corpo tá dificultando minha vida horrores… Vc pode me explicar em português?

    1. Oi, Giselle. Obrigada!

  7. Quote:Round 6: 3 hdc, inc (from here work only in the 3rd “hidden” loop at the back of work, under back loop of each st around) (30)

    Being rather new to crochet I am not understanding what this means exactly.

    Thanks!

  10. Pokemon Awesomeness 4 Ever!

    Haha! I knew the WIP was sadness! Awesome job! I love her! Keep put the epic work!
    P.S. MAYBE will you do some of the others? I wouldn’t mind more Pokemon though too! How is Mega Charizard X coming along?

    1. Hi! No problem :) Well, you are going to crochet her head and her “scalp”, which is a flat round piece. Then, you will place her “scalp” in the same place as shown in the photos and sew it to her head. You have to do it in order to hide the light blue spaces in her hair.
