Link (Ocarina of time)

Hi! This Link pattern was based on his adult version in the game Ocarina of Time. I also made Zelda and soon I will be posting her pattern here. Hope you like it ^_^ Cheers.

Materials:

– Cream, green, yellow, brown, white, grey and red yarn (I used 100% cotton yarn Barroco by Circulo, which is a bulky / 12 ply (7wpi));
– Thin yellow yarn to embroider (I used 100% cotton yarn Anne by Circulo, which is a Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi));
– Thin gold yarn to embroider (I used 100% cotton yarn Esterlina 5 by Círculo, which has a metalic look and is a Light Fingering);
– 4mm crochet hook;
– Fiberfill;
– Tapestry needle, needle and scissors;
– Safety eyes 10mm;
– Pins;
– Thick wire to sustain his head (because of the hood and hair his head is too heavy to stand up by itself, so you have to place a very thick piece of wire from the top of his head until his feet in order to keep his head up).

Notes:

– I always do my crochet works using continuous rounds. I will let you know when you have to join rounds;
– Everytime I will do a crochet work, the first thing I do is take a look in the entirely pattern before start doing it, so, I can have an idea of how the pattern works. Well, I recommend you to do the same;
– For sewing the pieces together you will use the tapestry needle;

Recently, I’m having a hard time to answer all the questions sent to my email and the comments. I’m sorry that I’m not able to answer your doubts. However, if you have any doubt, I’m sure that it is worth to leave a comment here, because even if I can’t answer you, I’m sure that someone in the community will try to help you out ^^

– Shield:
The pattern I used to make his shield wasn’t desined by me. It was created by All about Ami (click in the link to get the pattern).
I just made some adjustments in the size of the shield, which were:
In the front and back part of the shield:
In round 3, I made “ch 1, turn, sc, 2 inc, sc (6)” instead of what the pattern says.
In round 4-5 I made one sc in each sc (6) instead of what the pattern says.
In round 6 I made “2 sc, 2 inc, 2 sc (8)” instead of what the pattern says.
In round 7 and 8 I made one sc in each sc instead of what the pattern says.
In round 9 I made “sc, 2 dc, 1 trc, ch1, 1 trc, 2 dc, sc (8) instead of what the pattern says.
And finish off instead of making round 10 and 11. Then make the sc border in the front and back part as the pattern indicates.

Strap: make 9 ch, then 8 sc from the 2nd chain from hook and sew both ends to the shield.

– Sword:
Blade:
Start with grey yarn.
R1: ch2, sc in the 2nd ch from hook (1)

Fold into half and sew the parts together. Place a piece of wire inside.

Cross-guard:
R1: ch 2, sc from the 2nd ch from hook (1)
R2-10: ch1, turn, sc (1)
Finish off.
Sew the cross-guard around the blade, covering the beginning of the blade.

Strap: ch 10 and  sew both ends to the sword.

-Sheath:
In yellow yarn
R1: ch 9, sc 8 from the 2nd ch from hook (8)
Change to blue
R2-3: sc in each sc (8)
Change to yellow
R4-5: sc in each sc (8)
Change to blue
R6-7: sc in each sc (8)
Change to yellow
R8: sc in each sc (8)
Finish off.

Fold it and sew the first row with the last one, leaving a hole on the top and closing the bottom hole:

Handle:

Brown yarn
R1: ch 21. Finish off.

Sew both ends to the tube.

Assembly:

1. Make all the crochet pieces.

2. Sew his ears to his head.

3. Sew his hair to his head.

4. Sew his hood to his head.

5. Insert a thick wire inside his head and body, from the top of his head until his feet. Because his head is too heavy to stand up by itself you need to put this wire.

6. Sew his feet to his legs (Stuff his feet lightly)

7. Sew his arms to his body (just stuff his hands, no need to stuff his arms)

8. Sew the bottom of his tunic bellow his belt

9. Embroider the buckle of his belt with gold yarn

10. Place his sheath on his back and he is done!

    Thank you so much for this recipe. I’m almost done, but I have some trouble with starting on the body. I’m fairly new to crocheting.

    R1: ch 5, 2 sc in 2nd chain from hook, 2 sc, 3 sc in the last chain, 2 sc, sc (10)

    Any way you could help me understand this? :)

      1. Thank you :) I asked on another forum as well, and they told me the same. Was able to finish the body. Your link gave a very good toturial I see. Hope it can bring some help to other beginners who try this project :)
